Many people with disabilities use a service animal in order to fully participate in everyday life. Dogs are be trained to perform important tasks to assist people with disabilities, such as providing stability for a person who has difficulty walking, picking up items for a person who uses a wheelchair, preventing a child with autism from wandering away, or alerting.
Under the ADA, a service animal is defined as a dog that has been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for an individual with a disability. The task(s) performed by the dog must be directly related to the person's disability.
The dog must be trained to take a specific action when needed to assist the person with a disability.
animals that provide comfort just by being with a person. Because they have not been trained to perform a specific job or task, they do not qualify as service animals under the ADA. However, some State or local governments have laws that allow people to take emotional support animals into public places. You may check with your State and local government agencies to find out about these laws. emotional support, therapy, comfort, or companion animals are NOT service animals.
Under the ADA, the dog must already be trained before it can be taken into public places. However, some State or local laws cover animals that are still in training.
The ADA does not require service animals to wear a vest, ID tag, or specific harness.

The International Day of Sign Languages is a opportunity to support and protect the linguistic identity and cultural diversity of all deaf people and other sign language users.
According to the World Federation of the Deaf, there are more than 70 million deaf people worldwide. More than 80% of them live in developing countries. Collectively, they use more than 300 different sign languages.
The proposal for the Day came from the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD), a federation of 135 national associations of deaf people, representing approximately 70 million deaf people’s human rights worldwide.
The International Day of Sign Languages was first celebrated in 2018 as part of the International Week of the Deaf.

HSEE is proud to have sign language as a language class as standard.
the day acknowledges that early access to sign language and services in sign language, including quality education available in sign language, is vital to the growth and development of the deaf individual and critical to the achievement of the internationally agreed development goals. It recognizes the importance of preserving sign languages as part of linguistic and cultural diversity. It also emphasizes the principle of “nothing about us without us” in terms of working with deaf communities.
dysautonomia(awareness month oct)

there mission: to identify the causes and cures for all forms of dysautonomia and to enhance the quality-of-life of people currently living with these illnesses.
there goal: to raise funds for research on various forms of dysautonomia, including but not limited to, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome, Neurocardiogenic Syncope, Multiple System Atrophy, and Pure Autonomic Failure;
To raise awareness of dysautonomia within the medical profession, and to provide accurate information to practitioners on the latest diagnostic methods and treatment options available, in order to improve patient care;
To empower patients and caregivers by providing them with useful tools, resources and information regarding dysautonomia; and
To increase awareness and recognition of dysautonomia amongst the general public.
depression awareness month (october)
This observance works to bring awareness to the need for depression awareness and the need for accessible and affordable mental health screenings. A number of different factors can often come into play with depression that can include a mix of environmental, genetic, psychological, and biological /biochemical components. Not everyone experiences depression in the same way, but it can affect anyone at any time. So, it is important to take that next step and seek out professional help and be screened if you or someone you care about feels they may be depressed. Depression is a highly treatable condition with many different options available, but a professional should be sought out to help determine the best course of action for every individual that is suffering from it.
Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (awareness day oct 20th)
Mast Cell Action
Mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS) is a condition which can develop in children or adults.
In people with MCAS, mast cell mediators are released too frequently or abundantly, and/or in response to triggers that are not typically considered to be harmful, for example; foodstuffs or chemicals in the environment. Inappropriately triggered inflammation among individuals with MCAS leads to a wide range of symptoms that affect multiple systems in the body.
The founders and trustees of Mast Cell Action are united in our common vision to provide support, raise awareness, and help advance the diagnosis and treatment of MCAS. Our objective is to build an organisation that gives a voice to patients, supports doctors, and informs policy-makers about this condition.

persons with disabilities are less likely to access health care, education, employment and to participate in the community. An integrated approach is required to ensure that persons with disabilities are not left behind.
If accommodations for people with disabilities are not in place, ask the shop owner, mall manager and/or your elected officials to install them. It’s the law.

People with disabilities sometimes feel invisible in our society. People rush around them in their daily routines, barely noticing them. Today, try to make eye contact and smile and be available to help should they seem to be having difficulties.

Braille is an alphabet that can be used to write almost any language and versions are available in Arabic, Chinese, Hebrew, Spanish, and more.
Uncontracted Braille spells out every word, whereas contracted Braille is a shorthand version that abbreviates familiar words.
Braille, just like education, should be a legal right. Awareness of Braille’s importance cannot be overemphasized.
We often take our sight for granted and don’t understand the unique challenges that those with little or no sight face daily. Those with visual impairments deserve not only our recognition but also respect.

Stalking Prevention, Awareness
Stalking and harassment are similar and can overlap. Harassment may be part of a stalking pattern of behavior/course of conduct.
Generally, the element of fear is what separates stalking from harassment. Harassment is typically irritating and bothersome, sometimes to the point where a victim feels deeply uncomfortable. However, victims of harassment are not typically afraid of their perpetrators.
For example, a colleague who consistently mocks a new coworker for her appearance may be harassing her by saying cruel things and sending disparaging e-mails. While the victim is distressed and may feel sad, anxious, angry and/or uncomfortable, she is not afraid of the perpetrator – she does not believe that the behaviors will escalate or that further harm will come to her. However, if that same perpetrator began calling the victim’s cell phone, following the victim and/or posting disparaging things about the victim online, it could become stalking.

International Owl Awareness Day
raises awareness about our beloved nocturnal raptors Owls have long captivated us with their mystery and perceived wisdom, but their representation in pop culture media, folklore, and material possessions does not always do these magical creatures justice.
Despite their prominence in diverse international cultures, we often unintentionally harm our beloved owls. American Bird Conservancy and Partners in Flight (PFI) suggests that a third or more of our native owl species are in decline. International Owl Awareness Day not only celebrates the humble owl, but it also educates our community on how they can join us in conserving and protecting these fantastic beasts.

It , this day dedicated entirely to dogs looks to bring attention to the plight of animals around the globe and encourages adoption.
With millions of dogs winding up in shelters across the country each year, choosing to adopt rather than shop has never been more important
celebrates all dogs, mixed breed and pure, and its mission is two-fold. Firstly, the day looks to spotlight the number of dogs looking to be rescued each year. The event strongly discourages buying dogs from pet stores supplied by puppy mills, backyard breeders, the Internet or newspaper ads. Rather, Its all about adoption first from local shelters or adoption drives
remember puppies go fast, if you can adopt a older dog, who needs a home most & is not very quick to be picked.
